The team in Freiburg
In the beginning, three students from Freiburg (South Germany) wanted to play soccer with boys of the local refugee dormitory. That was in may 2008. But they had no idea that most of the players were from Roma families.
The training took place twice a week and the boys practiced even harder when the summer tournament approached. This one was organised by Amnesty International and - named the red wulfs - the boys played really beautiful soccer.
On the hard court, the players speak Romani or German. Sometimes other boys participate in the final game which terminates the training. These ones usually come to visit their family in Freiburg, so they feel like visitors - something they have in common with the Roma players.
The training continued, two trainers left and one joined in. For the winter, the refugee dormitorys administration made a deal with an adjacent school: thus a gym is reserved for every friday evening.
